I Never Imagined…

Teaching music has been an amazing career path. I never imagined how deeply rewarding it would be to build relationships while helping students discover the joy of playing music. It’s become so much more than just teaching chords and notes. It’s incredibly satisfying to hear my students’ challenges and be able to offer support and guidance.

Landon

The other day, Landon, one of my first-grade students, wanted to show his drawing to his class but wasn’t able to. He was very quiet and sad when he came into the studio and I wasn’t sure what happened until his mom told me.

He brought along this incredible drawing to the guitar lessons and revealed a picture unlike any I had seen before. A magnificent dragon, its scales shimmering with a kaleidoscope of pinks and purples, dominated the page. Its wings were powerful and his claws were sharp, ready to take flight. It was a masterpiece, bursting with color and energy.

We talked about different types of dragons, their strengths, and special abilities. And he told me this purple one he drew “will turn black and be even more powerful when it grows up.”

It was a great looking dragon and he did an amazing job drawing it. It was so much fun talking about which dragons were the most powerful and biggest. I let him know the yellow dragons can stop time for a brief period while they are still young. But I realize I have a lot to learn yet when it comes to dragons.

By the end of the lesson, his whole mood had changed. As the door shut behind him, suddenly, the urgency of my dragon studies became impossible to ignore.

Just One Day in the Life

This was just one day in the life of a teacher. It is so incredible how these things can have such a huge impact on us. If you have a passion for teaching, I highly recommend pursuing it!!
