First Gig in the New Band
Our new band is playing our first gig today. And as with any new situation, it is always exciting as well as a bit nerve wracking.
I remember the first gig in my last band Dokajovi, we had a wireless microphone problem which ended up being my Shure 58. It completely destroyed the music with the intermittent sound of an overhead jet crashing into the abyss. Despite the fact that the bassist and keyboardist had a top of the line JBL system with crown amps etc., all they audience heard was the whooshing and static sound of my mic. Even my mom left early, at which point you know things are not good.
Over time, we were able to work out all of the kinks and the gigs were far less stressful. But those first days made a person want to hide in the bathroom.
First Official Acoustic Band
This will also be my first official acoustic band. Even as a 3 piece, I have always had bass and drums. This new band is primarily vocals, which is a whole new dynamic.
I have always judged the success of the band by the number of dancers, so this will be a little different. The other band members are amazing and so much fun to sing with, but this will be a new experience.
Friend’s Support
I am excited that there will be some good friends at the gig. When I read a lot of Facebook posts about being thankful for the support, I always fully agree with that. Friends really begin to feel like family after a while. Without the support of friends and family, the music scene in any city would really suffer.
I am now going to pack up and get ready to head to the show. Thank you for reading and following my posts!
