After the Big Show
Playing the legendary Belly Up in Aspen was an incredible, nerve-wracking, and unforgettable experience for the band. Here is a look behind the scenes at the big show!
From the Stage
As a Greeley guitar teacher, I’m always telling my students that music is a team sport. You can have the best licks in the world, but if the band isn’t clicking, the audience feels it.
Studio to Aspen Colorado
For years, I’ve had the privilege of sitting across from aspiring musicians in the studio. We work on the foundations of the muscle memory of an A-minor chord, the alternate picking, or the rhythmic pocket of a solid drum fill. But as a teacher, my ultimate goal isn’t just to teach you how to play an instrument, it’s to inspire you. And for some though, it’s also to prepare for the stage.
Electric Guitar Pickups: Seymour Duncan vs. DiMarzio
Two of the most popular brands of electric guitar pickups are Seymour Duncan and DiMarzio. They both offer a ton of options, each with distinct sonic personalities. Let’s navigate their sonic landscapes and see what makes them tick.
Guitars in Hot Cars
Now that summer is here, a lot of people may be grabbing their guitars to play some music with the family. With summer temperatures sometimes hitting over 100 degrees, the temperature and humidity can really do a number on your beloved instrument. Leaving your guitar in a hot car can destroy it in less than an hour.
Quitting Lessons
I have seen some of the most amazing students come and go. Some have stayed for over a decade and others ended up quitting guitar lessons after less than a month. If the student has been with a teacher for a number of years and has built an amazing relationship, leaving can really be tough. Here are a few thoughts that may help ease the transition.
What to Expect at Your First Guitar Lesson
A lot of people have no idea of what to expect when going into their first guitar lesson. Most people are very nervous and usually have never touched a guitar before. For many students, they have never played an instrument before either.
